FAQ

An ad blocker is software that can remove ads from websites so you don’t have to be bothered by annoying popups, auto-play videos, distracting banners and more. Ad blockers have become so popular that over 70 million people worldwide use them today. Most ad blockers only work on a specific browser such as Chrome or Firefox, but StopAd works on all popular browsers automatically which means you don’t have to waste time finding, installing and updating multiple ad blockers for all your browsers.
Since StopAd is an application that installs on your computer instead of an extension that’s dependent on your browser, it can block ads much more effectively and save you a ton of time, too. Once you download and install StopAd, it begins to work automatically to block ads in all major browsers as well as apps like Skype, uTorrent and more. You can also use StopAd Web Assistant to turn ads on or off on specific websites—StopAd is completely customizable.
StopAd is FREE for life.
Simple, really: we believe advertisers have gone too far and are compromising safety and usability in the name of making a few bucks. We think everyone deserves to take control of their online experience, and StopAd was created with that in mind. We may add a “pro” version in the future that has added privacy features, but StopAd ad blocking features will always be free.
Any ad blocker is better than no ad blocker, but StopAd is better than the competition in many ways. See a helpful comparison chart. A few highlights: StopAd works across all major browsers and apps, it blocks ads on Facebook and Google, and we don’t partner with advertisers.
StopAd blocks ads on modern versions of Chrome, Firefox, IE, Edge and Opera.
StopAd blocks ads on Skype, uTorrent, YouTube and Facebook, to name just a few.
Right now StopAd only works on PCs and Android, but we’re working night and day to release more versions of StopAd. Want to be the first to know when StopAd is released for MacOS or iOS? Subscribe to our newsletter.
Nope. StopAd was created to be as small and lean as possible so it doesn’t slow down your computer’s performance or slow down webpages from loading.
It does! A lot of ad blockers don’t work on those sites but StopAd does.
By default StopAd blocks ads on all websites, but you can easily customize your experience. Just click the hand in the lower right corner of your browser window to launch Web Assistant. Then just click the slider to turn ads on and off for the site you’re browsing. It’s that easy.
Trackers are snippets of code that send and receive information about you and your online history to other companies. They can slow down websites and expose your private data to advertisers, cyber criminals and governments. StopAd blocks trackers so your privacy is safe.
Malware, short for “malicious software”, is basically any type of harmful software including viruses, worms, Trojan horses, ransomware, spyware, adware, etc. StopAd has its own database of malicious websites so you aren’t exposed to malware.
Phishing is the practice of trying to get private information such as usernames, passwords, credit card details, social security numbers and more through the use of imposter emails and websites. StopAd’s built-in anti-phishing tool can detect these sites and steer you away from danger.
Web Assistant is your key to customizing StopAd’s powerful features. You can launch Web Assistant by clicking the icon in the lower right corner of your browser window. Web Assistant lets you turn ad blocking on and off for specific websites, manually block specific elements and edit blocking filters.
